Mural Created in Tribute to Beloved 'Morrisons Cat'

A mural has been painted in memory of a cat who regularly greeted shoppers at a supermarket.

Grace, affectionately known as "the Morrisons cat," was tragically hit by a car in December.

Her owner, 10-year-old Florence, said: "She was a bit of an attention seeker; she wouldn't let someone go by and just ignore her."

The mural, located on the side of a house opposite the Morrisons on Outland Road, Plymouth, was commissioned by Plymouth's Artists Together.

'Quite famous'

In a Facebook post, Mike Vosper from Plymouth Artists Together described the mural as a "fitting tribute" to Grace.

He expressed gratitude to "Jeremy and Sarah, the two local councillors, for funding this through Plymouth's Artists Together; Jordan, AKA SpraySaint, for his amazing work, and landlord Steve for allowing us to use his wall."

When asked about the mural, Florence said: "It's actually really nice because it shows that they care about her and that she's still hanging around Morrisons."

She noted that Grace was "quite famous around this area" and mentioned that a collection held during the mural's painting raised £50 for Cats Protection.

Florence added that it was "really nice" that Grace's memory was helping to raise money for other cats and encouraged people to donate via Grace's Facebook page.

A Morrisons spokesperson said: "Grace was a well-loved extra member of our team, who always showed purr-fect customer service and made our customers and colleagues smile every day."
