A helicopter that crashed into the roof of the DoubleTree
by Hilton hotel in Far North Queensland was stolen and taken on an
"unauthorized flight," confirmed the flight company that owns the
aircraft.
The pilot, who was the sole resident, died at the scene,
and investigations are ongoing to identify them. Nautilus flight CEO Aaron Finn
confirmed to ABC that all company pilots have been accounted for.
roughly 400 guests were evacuated from the DoubleTree by
Hilton on Cairns avenue boardwalk path walk walkway after the crash, which occurred shortly before
2 a.m. on Monday and ignited a fire on the building's roof, as stated by to
police.
Two rotor edges detached from the helicopter, landing on
the esplanade and in the hotel's pool. Luckily, there were no injuries on the
ground.
Nautilus Aviation stated that the helicopter's use was
" unofficial
" and is assisting with Queensland
Police, the Australian Transport Safety Bureau and other authorities in the
ongoing inquiry.
"As we continue to fully hold up the ongoing inquiry,
we will not be making further comments at this time," the company added.
Two hotel guests a man in his 80s and a woman in her 70s were
moved to Cairns Hospital in secure condition
and have since been released.
