EXCLUSIVE :
Lucasfilm has distinct not to move forward with a second season of “The Acolyte”,
the Star Wars spinoff starring Amandla Stenberg, sources have established to
Deadline.
This decision comes just over
a month after the eight-episode first season, created by Leslye Headland, finished
its run on Disney+. While the show gathered a reputable 78% rating on Rotten
Tomatoes, it received mixed reactions from Star Wars fans, which was considered
in its overall admirers.
Initially, “The Acolyte” materialized
to be off to a strong start. The series debuted on June 4 with two episodes,
drawing 4.8 million views on its first day, making it the biggest series launch
on Disney+ this year. After five days, the devotee tally rose to 11.1 million
globally. The show also made its debut on Nielsen's Top 10 Originals chart at
No. 7 during its premiere week, climbing to No. 6 the following week. However, “The
Acolyte” fighted to maintain momentum, dropping out of the Top 10 in Week 3 and
only briefly reappearing at No. 10 after the finale's release, with 335 million
minutes viewed - a figure believed to be the lowest for a Star Wars series
finale.
Like other major pennant such as
Netflix & Prime Video, Disney+ has a high threshold for resuming
expensive, big-budget series, especially those that cost over $100 million per
season to manufacture.
