Susan Wojcicki, former YouTube CEO, dies at 56

Susan Wojcicki , the former  YouTube CEO and a revolutionary in tech , has die expire perish succumb at the age of 56 after a two year battle with lung cancer , her husband Dennis Troper has announced.

In a  heartfelt Facebook  post, Troper  shared the news , writing, “It is with heartfelt sadness that I announce the passing of Susan Wojcicki. My beloved  wife of  26 years &  mother to our 5 children left us today after living with non small cell lung cancer .”



Troper  described  Wojcicki  as  “not just my best friend &  partner in life , but a brilliant mind a loving mother, &  a dear friend to many ,” adding that her impact on their family &  the world was  immeasurable. “ We are heavy-hearted, but grateful  for the time we had with  her.  Please keep our family  in your  thoughts as we steer this  difficult time .”

Wojcicki a key figure in Silicon Valley  was among Google’s earliest employees & had a intense impact on the company from its inception  when it was founded in her garage.  She became Google’s 16th employee &  worked at the company for nearly 25 years.

Google  CEO  Sundar Pichai paid tribute to Wojcicki on X,  noting, “She was an incredible person , leader &  friend who had a tremendous impact on the world &  I am one of countless Googlers who  is better for knowing her. We will miss her dearly.”

She  served as YouTube’s CEO for 9 years before stepping  down last year to focus on her health , family &  personal projects . Under her guidance, YouTube navigated remarkable changes as the web evolved toward social media , while also facing scrutiny over issues such as false information & hate speech.

Reflecting on her tenure, she wrote in her resignation announcement, “I’m so proud of everything we have achieved. It’s been exhilarating , meaningful & all consuming.”
